SHEPHERDS DELIGHT - 11th May, 2011
We visited the exemplary and sometimes forgotten BFI on London's Southbank to watch 'The Last Picture Show'. The film directed by Peter Bogdanovich, won 2 Academy Awards and was nomination for a further 8. The feature was made in 1971 but depictied the 1950s. It tells the coming-of-age story of a group of high schoolers living in a very desolate and bleak West Texas. The town named Anarene is a slowly dying, Tumbleweed, one store, one cinema, one resturant, clastrophobic place. There's incredible performances from the cast including, Timothy Bottoms, Jeff Bridges and the enchanting Cybill Shepherd; who plays the aptly named Jacy.
It could actually be a black comedy as we found lots of humour in the film. We were loling louder than the rest of the audience, whoops! Our favourite line (as seen below) delivered by Cybil is "What's on your feeble mind Duane?", glorious.
The film caused controversy for the now notorious swimming pool scene, in which characters got naked at an indoor pool party. This little gem led to it being banned in certain states, naughty. The songs really made the film for us with their poignant lyrics and sometimes rather depressing rifts that only Country can do. Country legends such as Lefty Frizzell (great name) and Hank Williams feature on the soundtrack, check out this beauty..they don’t make them like they used to!

MADE OF HONOUR - 2nd May, 2011
It's over and we don't quite no what to do with ourslves. The expectancy to see what Kate was wearing was higher than feelings felt before the end of an eBay bid! People are all talk about Pippa but at the Leonard Street Royal Party in London's East End the roars were loud for Kate's, Sarah Burton for McQueen, creation. We had such an amazing time at the event hosted by The Book Club. On the day we curated the fabulous vintage marketplace with Judy's Affordable Vintage Fair
People came out in such huge numbers that it was reminiscent of the opening queue for Glastonbury. Every single person was in such a celebratory mood that it was totally infectious! The style was beyond expectations, visitors put 100% into their outfits, we were in style heaven.
We spotted lots familiar faces from our Bethnal Green Fair (coming back on the 22nd of May). Sarah Owen (Lilly Allen's sister and Lucy in Disguise founder) Tayo of London's legendary Tayo's Tracksuit Parties all joined in with the celebrations as did CBS, Channel 4, Sky and the BBC. Check out our friend the gorgeous Naomi Thompson of Vintage Secret rocking a vintage dress bought on the day and our own Hazel with two Queen's Guards (we like to think they we're the real thing).
Now I know what you're thinking, what's this, a blog post with no food or drink shots!! Well we don't like to disappoint, here you go!
